The Asztalkő Festival is the flagship cultural celebration of the Association of Kőszeghegyalja (KHE), created to honour the unique spirit, traditions, and natural beauty of the Kőszeg foothills. Held annually in the heart of the region, the festival brings together residents, local artisans, cultural practitioners, and visitors for a day that blends heritage, creativity, and community engagement. Its name, inspired by the iconic Asztalkő rock formation, symbolises the meeting point of nature, culture, and collective memory. This enduring landmark reflects the resilience and identity of the local community. The festival’s program is built around showcasing the richness of regional traditions while embracing contemporary forms of expression. Visitors can enjoy craft demonstrations, folk music, storytelling sessions, and guided nature walks that highlight the area’s ecological and historical significance. Local producers present high‑quality foods, wines, and handmade goods, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to supporting sustainable, community‑based development. Educational workshops and interactive activities invite families and young participants to explore the cultural landscape in an engaging, hands‑on way. Beyond its cultural offerings, the Asztalkő Festival serves as a platform for strengthening social ties and fostering cooperation among local institutions, artists, and volunteers. It encourages dialogue between generations, celebrates shared values, and promotes pride in the region’s heritage. Each edition of the festival is carefully curated to maintain a harmonious visual identity that reflects the natural environment and the community’s creative energy. More than an event, the Asztalkő Festival is a living expression of belonging-an annual reminder of the traditions, landscapes, and relationships that define the Kőszeg foothills. It stands as a testament to the association’s mission: to preserve, celebrate, and elevate the cultural and natural treasures of the region for future generations.
