About

'Divvy Day': Street Theatre Celebrating The Kite's Cooperative Legacy acontece de 25 a 26 de outubro de 2026, The Grafton, em Cambridge.

A hundred years ago, Cambridge built a cooperative society that shared everything. Not just a shop — a whole way of life. Let’s explore our hidden heritage. Divvy Day is a street theatre production rooted in voices of the people who lived, worked, and played in The Kite neighbourhood of Cambridge, collected through a citizens' science project. The focus is the extraordinary legacy of the Cambridge & District Co-Operative Society and how it created a community of security and abundance as remembered through divvy books, dividend queues, the sense that the local economy was something that would pay you back - and had your back! As late as 1990, a staggering 83,000 people (out of a city population of 101,000) were members. Come hear their stories and learn how a neighbourhood economy created tangible community power. Created with Your Past Performed Theatre Company and written by Dr Sean Lang of ARU , Divvy Day brings those voices back to the streets they came from, because this isn't just a piece of history, it's something we can bring to life today. Part of Together Culture's Divvy Days, celebrating The Kite's cooperative legacy Together Culture is working to revitalise a Cambridge cooperative society for the 2020s: community-owned, community-accountable, and designed to pay its benefits back to the people who shape it. Funded by Arts Council England. Tickets Early Bird (available until 30 September 2026): £10 General Admission: £12.50 Supporter: £20 If cost is a barrier, email ellie@togetherculture.com.
