About
Field Studies Day 1 ft. Bhanu Kapil, Edka Jarząb and Marf Summers sobe ao palco a 7 de outubro de 2026, Present Tense, em Stoke Newington.
*Desires and Practices* opens the public programme of Field Studies: Present Tense with three poetic, convivial and powerful performances.
Drawing from *Desires & Practices*, a body of protocols developed across twenty-five years of teaching, Bhanu Kapil invites the Field Studies participants to develop short works, thinking and responses alongside the collective cooking of daal. The evening opens this process to the public, gathering around the table to share food alongside performances and work developed during the day.
Edka Jarząb’s *The Autobiography of the Voice* begins from a simple question: what is a voice allowed to be? In this performance, Edka approaches the voice not as an individual instrument but as a relational phenomenon, shaped by language, architecture, technology and power. Drawing on collective singing, protest warm-ups, deep listening, radio waves and field recordings, the work gathers personal vocal histories into a shared field, where voices heard as too loud, too angry, too broken or too foreign are given room and reclaimed.
With *Cold Bridge*, Marf Summers enters into a multi-sensory exploration of trans embodiment through a contemporary folk horror lens. Colliding the mundane and the sacred, the performance thinks around the limits of language and calls meaning itself into question.
