About

Finding the Frontier: How to Work on What's Next realiza-se a 12 de novembro de 2026, Absent Lisbon - Offline Café & Third Space, em Lisboa.

There’s rarely a roadmap for burgeoning fields. And the people who end up shaping new things tomorrow aren’t necessarily experts themselves, today. But those shaping future frontiers follow their curiosity, keep pulling at threads, and learn fast enough gain context while others are busy catching up.AI safety is one of those fields. Its most important problems may not yet have a discipline, a job title, or a tidy solution. A precipice that can be an unnerving more than presenting an opportunity; particularly if you're just starting out. Before roles and institutions harden, a fresh pair of eyes and a patchwork CV can be an asset rather than a gap.Join three people who’ve worked at the edge of emerging fields, across new technologies, catastrophic risk, consumer behaviour, entrepreneurship, and fast-moving organisations. We'll dig into:* Spotting weak signals: how to notice a shift before it becomes obvious, and tell a real one from hype* Judging under uncertainty: building good judgement when the evidence is thin, using data, curiosity, intuition, and a few well-chosen analogies from the past* Moving before you're an expert: how to head towards an emerging problem and learn quickly enough to contribute* Making your skills travel: why law, marketing, operations, design, and engineering all have a place in AI safety, and how to show it* Your early-career edge: what you can see exactly because you haven't yet settled into a field's habitsWhether you're considering a first role in AI safety or just wondering where your impact matters most, you'll leave with practical ways to find your own frontier and some encouragement that there is more than one way in. Better models for tomorrow need builders, translators, sceptics, and organisers. Perhaps you're one of them, too?Our Speakers- Irene Llull is a lawyer-turned-commercial and marketing leader with experience across strategy, entrepreneurship, and global consumer businesses.- Fernando Silva Kroes is a full-stack builder who has spotted emerging technologies and behaviours early, from health tech to digital spaces, turning them into products and ventures.- Jess Sprock is an operations and strategy practitioner working across technology, emerging risk, and AI safety, with a particular interest in finding where systems may fail before the risks fully materialise. Contractor for LISA, PauseAI UK and Apart Research.Open to students, early-career professionals, and the curious. No prior AI safety experience needed. To keep in mind:* Be on time, as talks start shortly after doors open* When you arrive, we will be checking you in at the entrance* Come with a question: the best ones go to the panelWe will capture photos and videos for documentation and promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed or filmed, let us know.
