NOURISHING COMMUNITY BHAKTI YOGA - KIRTAN & MEDICINE SONGS Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion, is the method of Self-Realisation through the way of love. It shows one how to lose oneself in devotion, making love with the divine, without losing one’s footing in life! “Kirtan” is derived from a Sanskrit root meaning to call, recite, praise, or glorify, put simply, kirtan is the act of praising and glorifying divinity. The word “kirtan” also stems from a Sanskrit root that means “to cut through,” so kirtan is also a practice for cutting through the idea of separation, for connecting to our hearts and connecting to the moment through sound and song. Often mantras are sung to deities that represent an older, deeper, bigger being. It's a space, a presence, a feeling. These names are the names of that place inside each of us that is love, pure being, pure awareness, pure joy.
