Skating Polly
Formed when stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse were just 9 and 14, Oklahoma's Skating Polly have spent over a decade channelling chameleonic musicality into what they call "ugly pop" - unruly, subversive, and wildly melodic all at once. With Kelli's brother Kurtis on drums completing the trio, they've become one of the most electrifying live acts on the underground circuit, earning the respect of punk royalty along the way. Noted for their alternating instruments, intensely poetic lyrics, and a setlist that shifts effortlessly from riot grrrl to grunge to piano-driven indie pop, every Skating Polly show feels like a small miracle of organised chaos.
This is their fifth visit to Liverpool, and if previous shows are anything to go by, it's going to be an absolute riot. Few bands reward a crowd's trust the way Skating Polly do - they arrive, they detonate, and they leave you wondering why more music doesn't feel this alive. Don't sleep on it.
Lord Friday The 13th
Lord Friday the 13th are a self-described dollar store trash-glam-punk band currently based in Los Angeles, fronted by siblings Felix and Sloane Lenz. Their sound has been likened to the Velvet Underground meeting the New York Dolls, with a healthy dose of early Iggy and the Stooges thrown in for good measure. They've toured two months across Europe, played Jack White's Third Man Records in Nashville, and supported Skating Polly on their summer runs in both 2023 and 2024 - so it's no surprise the two acts share a stage again now.
Challenging gender roles and honouring the spirit of punk's origins, Lord Friday push boundaries the way the genre always intended - raw, confrontational, and stubbornly themselves. With their debut album finally in the works after a run of brilliant EPs, catching them now feels like getting in early on something special. Loud, glittery, and completely unhinged.
