About
The Way of the Dancer, weekend workshop with Christian de Sousa acontece de 2 a 4 de outubro de 2026, Liceu Pedro Nunes, em Lisboa.
The Way of the Dancer 3rd–4th October + Friday 2nd October evening open drop-in session 2-day Immersion LISBON, Portugal After an incredible workshop last year, we are super excited to welcome Christian again to Lisbon for another immersion. The Way of the Dancer is an invitation to explore the fundamentals of conscious dance and deepen into movement as a meditation practice. 📍Our dance space will be again the gorgeous Liceu Pedro Nunes, near Jardim da Estrela, Lisbon. It is spacious, has a beautiful wooden floor and gorgeous windows, surrounded by a beautiful garden, right in the center of Lisbon. * 💃🏼 Dancing awakens us to the fact that we are alive. It ignites joy, brings medicine into the cells of our being, and helps us metabolise what we’re living through. On the dancefloor we remember who we are and what we offer to the world. WHAT IS IT TO BE A DANCER? To really dance, feel the music and open to the amazing and vast experience of body-spirit consciousness? How do we do that, on the dancefloor and in our everyday lives? The Way of the Dancer is an invitation to dance deep and explore ecstatic movement as a meditation practice for our times. We will learn core practices from 5Rhythms and Movement Medicine, exploring how they help and inspire us to connect – with ourselves, each other and the wider fields of community and world. We will move through a dancing ceremony to give thanks for life. WHO IS A DANCER? Anybody and everybody. We all move. We all live in bodies capable of extraordinary things. Everyone is a dancer, and if we’re paying attention, all of life is a dance. “If you have a body you are a dancer.” – Gabrielle Roth * 🌿WHAT IS AN IMMERSION?🌿 Immersions are a way to dive deep into the dance. They give time for experiential study of movement as meditation practice. They give space to the natural, healing and creative process that unfolds on the dancefloor. And they ignite the possibility of surrendering to the ecstatic experience that is dancing for long periods of time! We dance solo, we move with each other and we explore as a group. We gather with a basis of respect and celebration of all bodies, expressions and ways of moving. We use these protocols as a foundation for a strong, safe container. The journey will include an invitation to prepare before the workshop, and resources to support you to integrate the experience into everyday life. All bodies welcome. This workshop will be taught in English. Portuguese translation can be provided if needed. 👉🏼BOOK YOUR SPOT BELOW!! 💥This is the 2nd time Christian de Sousa is coming to teach in Portugal and I am delighted about it!! Christian facilitated my first 5Rhythms class back in London in 2010, and I was hooked ever since. Drop-ins, closed circles, online sessions, weekend workshops and deeper immersions followed, eventually leading me to train in Movement Medicine, continue assisting Christian in his work, and have him as my mentor. 👉🏼DON'T MISS THIS CHANCE TO DANCE with Christian!! ✦ About the FACILITATOR ✦ Christian de Sousa has held space for thousands of people to go on transformative journeys through dance. Creator of the legendary Sweaty Thursdays in a south London church, he trained in 5Rhythms with Gabrielle Roth in 2005 and was invited by Ya’Acov & Susannah Darling Khan to become one of the first Pathfinder teachers of Movement Medicine in 2011. As a DJ, he uses music to weave deep and subtle spaces for dancers to journey, connect, heal and create. He believes passionately in movement being a universally-accessible resource for our times and welcomes all peoples to the dancefloor, whatever ability, age, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, size, shape and style. Also influenced by Taoist and animist/shamanic teachings, he has studied in-depth with Malidoma Somé (Dagara medicine), Jean-Claude Audergon (Processwork) and Suprapto Suryodarmo (Amerta movement) Born in Switzerland of mixed European ancestry, he grew up in England and developed his practice in London and other big cities. He lives in the south Devon hills with his family, and learns about enlightenment from the cats.
